Terms of use and purchase
Last updated: 9 October 2026
This translation is provided for information only. In case of discrepancy, the Spanish version prevails.
These terms govern the use of Escaletta and the purchase of its plans. The service is provided by Asociación por la Defensa del Derecho a la Accesibilidad Web (ADDAW) (hereinafter “Escaletta”), whose details are given in the legal notice. By creating an account you accept them.
1. The service
Escaletta is an online editor for writing novels: chapters, outline, cards (wiki), version history, export to PDF and Markdown, and offline use. It includes optional artificial intelligence features: updating cards, answering questions about your novel, proofreading for typos and summarising chapters. The AI does not write your novel or change your chapters.
2. Your account
You sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for anything done from your account. You can sign out on all your devices and delete your account from within the app.
3. Plans and prices
- Free: one project and a complimentary AI credit to try it out.
- Complete: unlimited projects and an amount of AI included each month. If it runs out, you can top up your credit.
- Own AI: unlimited projects using your own key from an AI provider. You pay for AI usage directly to that provider.
You can also top up credit for the AI features.
Current prices are shown at https://escaletta.com/en/#precios and in the app, including taxes. Payments are made by card through Stripe.
4. Subscriptions
Subscriptions renew automatically every month or every year, as you choose, until you cancel them. You can cancel at any time from Account › Your plan: you will keep the plan until the end of the period already paid for and you will not be charged again. If we change the price, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance and you will be able to cancel before it applies.
5. AI credit
Credit is deducted according to the actual usage of each feature, which you can see in Account › AI usage. The AI included in the Complete plan renews each period and does not roll over. Topped-up credit does not expire while you have an account, and is lost if you delete it. You can set a spending cap by asking support.
6. Right of withdrawal
Subscriptions. The service starts as soon as you pay. You have 14 calendar days from purchase to withdraw without giving any reason, by writing to [email protected]. As the service has already begun to be provided, we refund the fee minus the amount proportionate to the days enjoyed and the included AI you have used, valued at the user price (article 108.3 of the Texto refundido de la Ley General para la Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios, the Spanish consolidated General Consumer and User Protection Act, TRLGDCU). After the 14 days, you can cancel at any time: the plan continues until the end of the period paid for and is not refunded.
Credit top-ups. Credit is digital content for immediate use. Before you pay, we ask you to expressly agree that it is made available straight away and that, as a result, you lose your right of withdrawal (article 103(m) TRLGDCU). Whatever you use is not refunded; details are in the refund policy.
7. Your texts
What you write is yours. You give us only the permission needed to store it, sync it between your devices, make backups and send it to the AI provider when you use an AI feature. We do not publish it, we do not use it to train models and we do not share it with anyone else. We recommend that you download backups from time to time (Settings › Backup).
8. Acceptable use
You may not use Escaletta for unlawful activities, to attack or overload the service, to circumvent its technical or plan limits, or to resell access to it. We may restrict or suspend an account that breaches these terms, notifying you where possible.
9. The AI
AI answers, cards and corrections may contain errors. Check them: cards have a history and major changes are proposed to you before they are applied. Escaletta is not liable for the creative or editorial decisions you make on the basis of them.
10. Availability and liability
We work to keep the service always available and to make sure nothing is lost (copies on your device and on the server, version history), but there may be interruptions for maintenance or for reasons beyond our control. To the extent permitted by law, Escaletta’s liability is limited to the amount you have paid in the previous twelve months. Nothing in this limits your rights as a consumer.
11. End of the service
You can delete your account at any time. If Escaletta is ever discontinued, we will notify you at least 60 days in advance so that you can download your texts, and we will refund the proportionate part of anything you have paid in advance.
12. Changes
If we change these terms, we will notify you in advance by email or in the app. If you do not agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
13. Governing law and jurisdiction
Spanish law applies. If you are a consumer, the courts of your place of residence have jurisdiction.
